The North Briton
I described this with Clive in the "Principal Services" book under "The expresses - Leeds-Glasgow" on pages 65-68, here are some more illustrations. This will eventually be considered separately under Neville Hill and its workings.
None of these photographs, of which I have original prints, are dated but appear to be from the 1950s. I have placed them in sequence according the age of the carriages:

Some time after July 1950, Haymarket's A3 No 60096 Papyrus departs Glasgow Queen St. on the eye-watering 1:40 of Cowlairs Bank with the Up "North Briton". It had recently been transferred from KX and a new shed plate had yet to be attached. The formation is entirely ex-LNER Gresley in BR carmine & cream livery and as far as can be seen, the later type on steel angle trussing. Photo: E.R. Wethersett.

A few years later probably c1953, the Down train sets off from Leeds City behind one of Neville Hill's A3s, No. 60084 Trigo. The stock was beginning to be modernised and two BR Mk.1s are at the leading end (BTK,FK) with Gresley catering carriages following. Photo: Eric Treacy.

A striking picture against the morning light of the Down train leaving Leeds on the 4-track approach to Cross Gates where the gradient steepens to 1:153. The formation is now made up with BR Mk.1 stock in maroon livery which was achieved by around 1959 so the date can be estimated as 1959-60, the loco which is believed to be 60036 Colombo, leaving Neville Hill in late spring 1961.
